Man is charged with child luring

Vermont State Police said a New Hampshire man came to the WalMart in Rutland on Friday hoping to meet a 13-year-old girl.

Instead, police said Michael Johnson, 59, of North Walpole, was met by officers and arrested on a charge of luring a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Police said the “girl” was actually a detective who Johnson — a former Rutland resident — contacted over the internet and sent sexually explicit messages to before arranging the meeting.

Police said Johnson was held for lack of $25,000 pending an arraignment Tuesday.
