When child actor Alexander Polinsky first walked in on Scott Baio allegedly molesting Nicole Eggert, he had no idea what he’d stumbled upon – or the “unrelenting” abuse that would follow, he said Wednesday.
Polinksy was 11 or 12 at the time, and newly cast on the hit 1980s sitcom “Charles in Charge.”
“I observed Scott with our co-star Nicole on his lap backstage. I was so naïve, I innocently hopped on his lap (with her) expecting to hear a story about Fonzie or ‘Happy Days’ or something awesome,” Polinsky said at an emotional press conference with Eggert and their lawyer, Lisa Bloom.
At the time, “Scott Baio was a hero to me,” he said, choking back tears.
Instead of hearing a story, Polinsky was abruptly thrown from Baio’s lap, he recalled. Baio angrily called him a homosexual slur as Nicole laughed, he said.
“I felt confusion, shame and then fear when I realized I had judged the situation wrong,” he said. “Their touching was not innocent, it was sexual in nature.” Alexander Polinsky, 43, said he suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Scott Baio.
