25-year-old ID’d as victim in deadly Bessemer shooting

Seddarrius Chavers Authorities have released the name of a man shot to death Wednesday night in his Bessemer neighborhood.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Seddarrius Trimaine Chavers. He was 25.

The shooting happened about 8:20 p.m. in the 1900 block of Arlington Avenue, where Chavers lived. Bessemer police and rescue workers responded to the location and tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:28 p.m.

Sgt. Cortice Miles said investigators recovered multiple shell casings from the scene, and also towed a vehicle as possible evidence.

Authorities say the shooting may have followed an altercation, but the investigation is still ongoing. Police have not announced any arrests in the homicide, which is Bessemer’s second this year.
