Police: Waterbury man assaulted mother in front of her son

NORWALK — A Waterbury man is facing charges for assaulting his son’s mother, police said.

The victim told police she was attempting to pick up one of her sons, whom she had left with his father, Shawn Bowman, at the Doubletree Inn, 789 Connecticut Ave., on Saturday, June 23, when an argument broke out.

Police said during the argument Bowman, 21, picked up his son, threw him on the bed and then charged at the victim, who was holding another child. The victim told police Bowman pushed her and then proceeded to grab and claw at her face.

The victim later went to police, who observed scratches and redness around the her face, and filed a report. At first, police were unable to locate Bowman, but the suspect turned himself in on Wednesday, June 27.

Bowman was charged with third-degree assault. He was held on a $20,000 bond and he was arraigned in court the following day.
