LOWELL — A 60-year-old Lowell man will spend a year in jail and two years on probation after pleading guilty to hitting a heating repairman from Dracut in the head with a meat cleaver.
Chandara Keo, of 79 Canton St., Unit 1R, pleaded guilty last week to armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Jan. 7 incident, according to court records.
Police reports said the 57-year-old repairman from Dracut had been working at Keo’s home and was leaving when he backed his truck into a ladder that was sticking out of the back of Keo’s truck in the driveway.
The 57-year-old knocked on Keo’s door to speak about the collision, when Keo emerged with a meat cleaver in his hand and chased the man until he struck him in the head with the meat cleaver, according to a police report.
The attorney who handled Keo’s arraignment earlier this year claimed Keo was merely defending himself.
Following Keo’s guilty plea, Judge Kenneth Salinger sentenced him to two years in the house of correction, with one year to be served and the other year suspended for two years. Salinger also sentenced Keo to two years […]
