Man shot, police search for suspect in New London

New London – A manhunt was underway Saturday for the suspect in a shooting that left a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The shooting took place on a sidewalk in the area of 33 Walden Ave. where police said a man was shot at least twice, once in the torso and another in the leg. Taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, the victim was later flown to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

A search for the suspect ensued. Multiple law enforcement vehicles were seen in the streets surrounding Walden Avenue. Some of those roads were temporarily closed to traffic.

At about noon, a woman out walking in the area West Pleasant and Colver streets, said she saw armed police walking through backyards and two K9 teams.

“There were cops on every corner,” the woman, who asked not to be identified, said.

Numerous New London police and officers from multiple neighboring departments are in New London for the annual Sailfest celebration.
