Suspect in Friday shooting arrested

Roswell police have charged a local man with first degree murder in the shooting death of a woman. Alessandro Alva (Submitted Photo) Alessandro Alva, 20, of Roswell, was charged for the shooting of Jennifer Morro, 40, of Roswell. The shooting happened at about 10:50 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of West Second Street, according to a news release issued by the Roswell Police Department late Monday.

As of Monday, Alva was still being held at the Chaves County Detention Center without bond, the release states.

According to an affidavit filed in Chaves County Magistrate Court, Morro was found Friday lying in the drive of a car wash after being shot once in the neck. Police identified Morro at the scene. She was then transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, where she died from her wounds.

The release states Chaves County deputies, at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, discovered a white Ford F-150 pickup truck in a parking lot outside the Saddlecreek Apartments, in the 1900 block of south Sunset Avenue. It matched one that was spotted by witnesses and caught on surveillance video at the location of the shooting.
