Man injured himself while in Torrington police cellblock

TORRINGTON — A city man charged in a domestic violence case Friday night was taken to Hartford Hospital over the weekend after he suffered serious injuries while alone in a Torrington Police Department cellblock. Police Capt. Bart Barown said Luis Mintijo-Sigueiro, 29, of 36 High St., “significantly injured himself,” but declined to elaborate pending the outcome of an investigation by the state police Western District Major Crime Squad.

Mintijo-Sigueiro was arrested after a woman escaped from him and called 911 Friday night, police allege. She told police Montijo-Sigueiro had tied her hands with a sock, strangled her with a shirt knotted around her neck and threatened her with a knife.

He fled and was found in Winsted. He later was turned over to city police and held on $100,000 bond.

Mintijo-Sigueiro was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.

He was hospitalized and unable to appear Monday in Torrington Superior Court. His condition was not available Wednesday. Related
