Elderly couple dead in apparent murder-suicide in Texas City nursing home

An elderly couple died Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide at a nursing home in Texas City, according to police.

The couple has not been identified.

Texas City police responded to the shooting at 2:45 p.m. at The Rio at Mainland Center, at 1011 Mainland Center Drive. Responding officers found a 90-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife dead in a residential room, police said.

Investigators believe the man entered the room and shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, police said.

No other information was available Sunday night.
