Man sought in fatal SE Albuquerque gas station shooting

Mark Bentacu (MDC) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives are looking for a 30-year-old who they say fatally shot a man in front of his adult son during a dispute at a Southeast Albuquerque gas station last week.

Mark Bentacu is charged with an open count of murder, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the March 17 death of Javier Solis-Marrufo, 51. A warrant has been issued for Bentacu’s arrest.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court:

Officers responded around 5:55 p.m. to the M&M gas station at Kathryn and Yale SE after a man called 911 saying his father had been shot. Police found Solis-Marrufo, shot in the side, near a mini-van in the parking lot and he died at the scene.

Solis-Marrufo’s son told detectives the two had been living out of the van for the past few months and, on the day of the murder, went to the gas station to buy cigars. The son said a woman confronted his father in the parking lot over some work he had done on her car.

The woman punched his father and a man, later identified as Bentacu, got out of her car with a gun in his hand and shot his father. Bentacu fired at the son, and the son fired back with his father’s gun, as Bentacu and the woman drove off.
