A 19-year-old Norwalk woman shot and killed early Friday in the Flatiron District of New York City was remembered as an artist and friend, according to those who knew her.
“She brought warmth — this radiance that filled up a room,” said a friend of Erica Lopez, the young woman killed in the shooting. The friend asked that his name be withheld because her family has requested others not to give interviews.
He said Lopez was born and raised in Norwalk and attended Brien McMahon High School.
On Saturday, New York City police made an arrest in the shooting that left Lopez dead and her boyfriend, Andres Arias, 21, injured, multiple outlets reported. The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported. Ruddy Osias, 27, was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second degree murder, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said.
Lopez and Arias left a birthday party at 230 Fifth Rooftop bar around midnight after a dispute broke out with another group at the bar, the New York Post reported .
Arias told the Daily Mail the fight was over a woman in the other group groping women at the party. As he and Lopez left, the group allegedly followed them outside and began shouting at them from two vehicles.
