BRIDGEPORT — A veteran city police officer was arrested on a warrant Friday and charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Sgt. Ivan Delgado was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was released after posting $250,000 bond pending arraignment in state Superior Court on Monday.

“It would be inappropriate to comment at this time,” Delgado’s lawyer, John R. Gulash said as he and his client left the Police Department.

Delgado, who has been on the police force for 13 years, was put on administrative leave without pay.

“After consideration and review of all preliminary information, I have placed him on administrative leave without pay. Sergeant Delgado’s hearing will be within 10 business days,” said Acting Police Chief Rebeca Garcia.

Garcia would not comment further.

Delgado was promoted to sergeant in 2014.

In 2016, he was put on administrative duty following allegations that he assaulted a man in the Police Department lockup. The city subsequently settled a federal lawsuit accusing Delgado of civil rights violations in the incident.
