A TEACHING assistant at a school for pupils with behavioral and emotional difficulties has pleaded guilty to having sex with one of her 14-year-old students.

Allyssa Gustafson, who used to work at Circle Academy in Urbana, Illinois, engaged in multiple sex acts as well as sending pictures of herself in lingerie and a bathing suit.

The 24-year-old will be sentenced on October 30 by Judge Roger Webber, who on Monday accepted her guilty plea to a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, reported the News Gazette.

A more serious count of criminal sexual assault was dismissed by Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Alferink following Gustafson’s guilty plea.

Alferink said she will seek a prison term but Gustafson’s attorney is expected to seek a community sentence.

Gustafson also communicated with the teen via social media.

The teen’s mom had previously said Gustafson deserved a harsher sentence.

“It was numerous times; it was numerous messages; it was numerous conversations,” his mother, who did not want her name shared for privacy reasons, told WCIA.

“He also told me that he had videos, text messages, pictures that was sent to him from the teacher,” the mother said, who added that she had seen Gustafson at her home.

“I never thought for once someone would have the audacity and the nerve to walk past me on my way out the door, knowing what her intentions were with my underage son.”

In a statement Circle Academy leaders said their highest priority would “always be the well-being and safety of our students”.

“In our schools, we strive to provide a supportive environment conducive to learning.

“As with all new hires, we conduct extensive background checks on our employees and have verified that all appropriate checks were completed in this case.”
