LA’s Hotel from Hell: Inside the Notorious Cecil Hotel
The Cecil Hotel was a budget hotel in downtown Los Angeles on South Main Street. It was also formerly called Hotel Cecil and The Cecil. Construction began on this hotel in 1924 and it opened in 1927. This hotel catered to tourists and business travelers and was beautiful for the time. The inside lobby was described as opulent, being constructed of marble, having stained glass windows, lush vegetation and statues. Boasting 700 guest rooms, this hotel had 19 floors. But it wouldn’t be long before our country fell into the Great Depression. And with that, along with the decline of neighborhood, came a series of unfortunate events that cast a shadow on the The Cecil and turned it into more of a Tower of Terror.
