JACKSON, Miss. — Brett DiBiase has pleaded guilty for his role in an embezzlement scheme that investigators said was the largest in state history.
The former pro wrestler was arrested in July 2019 along with several others, including former Mississippi Department of Human Services Director John Davis.
DiBiase entered a guilty plea Thursday in Hinds County Circuit Court to making fraudulent statements for the purposes of defrauding the government, according to Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.

DiBiase was accused of submitting false documents between November 2018 and February 2019 of work he did not perform but was paid for by MDHS. The funds came from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, investigators said. DiBiase has agreed to pay back restitution of the money that was received illegally and he will continue to cooperate with the DA’s office.
Davis and DHS employee Latimer Smith are accused of creating invoices to pay DiBiase TANF funds for teaching classes about drug abuse, but DiBiase was in a luxury rehabilitation facility for his own drug use in California at the time and did not perform the services, according to Owens.
Today Brett Dibiase, one of the people we arrested in the DHS embezzlement case, pleaded guilty.
