Stars accused of sexual harassment and assault “It hurts my heart so much to think of how many girls, many my own daughter’s age who have had to fend off or give in to his advances because I didn’t speak up at the time,” she wrote in an email to a modeling group.

“I remember many test shoots with teenage girls where Patrick’s team of assistants (including me) was dismissed for the day only to find naked photos of the girl in the darkroom the next day.”

Porn industry reckons with assault allegations and a string of deaths

Porn industry reckons with assault allegations and a string of deaths

(Amanda Lopez | The Washington Post) Tasha Reign is chairwoman of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, which is trying to create more guidelines for what’s acceptable in an industry rocked by sexual assault scandals and the recent deaths of five performers. The display is a tolerated tradition that goes back decades. But this year a few things were different at the AVN Awards, held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas.

Ron Jeremy, one of the biggest names in the industry to be accused of sexual assault, was banned from the proceedings. So the usual assortment of post-party photos featuring his hands placed as human lingerie — he has called himself "a groper" — was absent. Although the trade show’s zero-tolerance policy on harassment landed last year — long before recent sexual harassment scandals rocked Hollywood — this year it required participants to sign the policy, a clear response to the #MeToo movement . Moves like this have some in the industry peacocking, especially as crosstown rival Hollywood has been hammered over its lack of gender equality. "If you look at the recent AVN nominations for director of the year, nearly half of the names were women," says […]

‘Spin the bottle’ and a kegerator: #MeToo movement lawmaker faces new allegations

‘Spin the bottle’ and a kegerator: #MeToo movement lawmaker faces new allegations

SAN FRANCISCO — New misconduct allegations have been leveled against California Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia — the high-profile #MeToo movement activist under investigation herself for alleged sexual harassment — including a claim that Garcia urged staffers to play “spin the bottle” after a political fundraiser.

David John Kernick has filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing claiming he was dismissed from his job in Garcia’s district office for questioning the propriety of asking staffers to play the game.

Kernick, 38, who worked for the assemblywoman for five months in 2014, described to POLITICO an evening of heavy drinking in which Garcia ended up sitting on a hotel room floor with about half-dozen people — including her staffers and at least one male friend — and prompted them to play a game that results in participants kissing each other.

“It was definitely uncomfortable,’’ said Kernick, adding that the assemblywoman’s suggestion was met with discomfort and then ignored. “But I realized it’s different for a man than for a woman….you know it’s inappropriate, but at the same time you may wonder, ‘how many women do you work for that act like that?’ You think…’maybe she’s just really cool.’’’

Actress Charlyne Yi claims Marilyn Manson harassed her and other women on set of ‘House’

Actress Charlyne Yi claims Marilyn Manson harassed her and other women on set of ‘House’

Charlyne Yi claimed on Twitter that Marilyn Manson once harassed the women on the “House” set. "House" actress Charlyne Yi alleged on Twitter that Marilyn Manson once visited the show’s set and harassed "every woman" about lesbian sex acts.

The actress made the remarks on her social media account after Manson’s fans demanded refunds on Friday after he stormed off stage at the Paramount Theatre in Long Island following a bizarre rant at Thursday’s concert.

"Ugh don’t even get me started on Marilyn Manson. Yes this happened a long time ago — on the last season of House he came on set to visit because he was a huge fan of the show & he harassed just about every woman asking us if we were going to scissor, rhino & called me a China man," she alleged in a now-deleted tweet, using slang terms like "scissor" and "rhino," which describe types of lesbian sex activities.

In a follow-up tweet, she wrote: "It’s so triggering to see people come up on the internet who have harassed you. And then when you talk about the incidents you become known as the person tied to the harasser. And that’s just your name from now on. […]

Ex-Utah State University football player asks judge to combine six sexual assault cases, move the trial out of Cache County

Ex-Utah State University football player asks judge to combine six sexual assault cases, move the trial out of Cache County

Former Utah State University linebacker Torrey Green appearing in 1st District Court, as seen in August 2017. Green’s attorney has filed court motions seeking to combine six cases being brought against Green into one — and have his trial transferred out of Cache County. A former Utah State University football player accused of sexually assaulting seven women is trying to get his jury trial moved out of Cache County, arguing the community is too small and media coverage too extensive for him to receive a fair trial.

Former USU linebacker Torrey Green’s attorney, Skye Lazaro, is also arguing that six of the seven sexual assault cases being brought against him are so similar they should be combined, according to court documents filed Tuesday in Utah’s 1st District Court.

Green, 24, is charged with 12 felonies — including kidnapping and rape — in seven separate cases, after seven women came forward saying he sexually assaulted them while he was a student in Logan between 2013 and 2015.

In September, Judge Brian Cannell ruled the women in six of the seven cases could testify in each others trials because of similarities in their alleged assaults, including how Green and the women met, and when […]

Legislative auditor report to highlight broad failures in state response to elder abuse

Legislative auditor report to highlight broad failures in state response to elder abuse

The state agency charged with preventing abuse in senior care homes is plagued by severe dysfunction, chronic delays and a chaotic work environment that has hindered timely and effective investigations, according to a forthcoming report by Minnesota’s legislative auditor.

The problems are so acute that officials with the auditor’s office requested a meeting late last year with top administrators at the Minnesota Department of Health, where they laid out a series of measures to improve oversight of senior care facilities. Traditionally, the legislative auditor’s office waits until its reports are complete before it meets with agency staff or issues recommendations.

"What we found was troubling," said Judy Randall, deputy legislative auditor, who declined to disclose details until the report is released early next month. "Usually, we don’t see things that are so concerning. But we felt like the issues were serious enough that immediate actions were necessary."

The highly anticipated report is expected to amplify mounting concerns among lawmakers that the Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC), a division within the Health Department, lacks the tools and expertise to investigate the more than 20,000 allegations of abuse and neglect at senior homes that it receives each year. The audit originated a year […]
