Now if all the statements made in this article are true about Quake, then it is very possible that he had committed other crimes in the past. We know that people who become obsessed and fixated on someone, don’t just turn off a switch and decide one day to stop stalking someone. An obsessed mind will escalate what they do. Sometimes you see that kind of escalation in one victim, or through years with several victims. But they don’t typically stop – until they either kill the person, get killed themselves, or go to prison.
This afternoon 28 year old Quake Lewellyn made his first court appearance at the Jackson County Courthouse. He arrived with law enforcement wearing a bulletproof vest. He was silent when reporters asked him if he killed Sydney Sutherland. About two dozen of Sydney’s family members were in the courtroom and only two people were sitting on the defense side of the room. The probable cause hearing was held for the charges of capital murder, rape and kidnapping.According to an Arkansas State Police agent testifying in this case, Quake Lewellyn was traveling westbound on County Rd 41 when he observed Sydney walking and passed by her. He then made a U-turn and came back to where she was, abducted her, put her in the back of his truck and brought her to farmland and sexually assaulted her. Then he buried her there. There weren’t any witnesses who testified about her cause of death.
We’re waiting on a date and time for his arraignment, but in the 48 hours since Sheriff David Lucas announced that Sydney’s body was found, we’ve learned a lot about her alleged killer. We expect that officials in Arkansas will arraign Quake Lewellyn and present formal charges against him. Right now, we know he is charged with Capital murder, which in Arkansas requires one of several aggravating factors.
This case first began as a missing persons cases on Wednesday, August 19th. Sydney Sutherland, a resident from Grubbs, Arkansas, went missing while she was out running along this highlighted route. Now, as you can see, this area is very rural. Grubbs is a small town of around 350 people. The small town is close to Newport and Tuckerman, which are larger towns, but the population is under 10,000 for those two towns combined. This is an area where there is a lot of farmland. When Sydney didn’t return home from her run on Wednesday, family and friends all went out searching for her. They posted on social media, searching for any answers that might lead to her whereabouts. But when they couldn’t find her by that evening, they contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s department.
We’re working on a more comprehensive recap of what we know, which we will post on YouTube later today. But while we work on that, we wanted to share yesterday’s press conference from Jackson County Sheriff, David Lucas, who shared the news that the body of 25 year old, Sydney Sutherland has been recovered.Sheriff Lucas tells us that they had found the body of missing woman, Sydney Sutherland. A suspect is in custody and the investigation continues. We’ll be back with more details later today.
